A 3-walled shower is one where you step into the shower recess completely, but more walls can sometimes mean more opportunity for leaks and problems, but the fix process is similar to the two-walled shower.
This was an ensuite shower in a rental property.
The shower was leaking through the wall and the real estate agent and owner chose to have it fixed between tenants. I recommended they have the old shower screen fixed at the same time but, due to budget constraints, they chose not to, so I had to work with the old shower screen.
I started this job by removing all the silicone in the shower recess. There was a lot of excess silicone caked under the shower screen where someone had tried to stop the leak previously.
I then removed the grout from the shower base and around the shower waste. This shower had been retiled at some point with a rectified square edge tile, so I removed the grout in the walls by hand with a utility knife. I noticed the grout was very soft and hadn't flowed all the way into the joint. This was why this shower is leaking.
Now that all the grout is out I deep cleaned the tiles and then treated them for mould. I turn my floor fan on and ducked home for lunch. An hour later the whole shower was dry. I mixed up some ultra white grout and grout the three walls.
While that set I cleaned the shower screen. The shower screen was a little rusty and there was nothing I can do about that but I was able to free up the doors and runners so it functioned properly again.
I mixed some grey two-part epoxy grout and regrouted the base. I piped in an epoxy perimeter seal and then blended my silicone vertical seals into the epoxy perimeter seal. Rather than install silicone again under the shower screen. I used the same grey epoxy to make the seal much tougher. The whole space was detailed again. I cleaned up the bathroom, packed away my tools and was done.
