This shower was in reasonably good condition. It wasn’t leaking and the shower screen and all the tiles were fine.
But, like a lot of customers, the owners were struggling to control the mould that kept coming back. Unfortunately when mould takes hold in grout it can be nearly impossible to irradicate so the owners asked me to fix this shower.
I started by removing all the silicon from within the shower recess.
I then carefully removed the grout from the shower base and around the shower waste. I then removed the grout from the shower walls by hand with a utility knife as the tiles were rectified, square-edged tiles and they would chip easily if I used power tools.
The shower then got an intense clean and was treated to remove mould spores. I set up a fan to dry it all out and headed off to lunch. Upon returning everything was dry and it was time to make it look pretty again.
I started by regrouting the shower walls with a trade-quality ultra-white grout. While that dried, I cleaned the entire bathroom and shower screen. I mixed a batch of slate grey two-part epoxy to create a impenetrable waterproof seal around the perimeter of the shower base, then regrouted the shower base and around the waste.
I then used premium bathroom-grade silicone up the vertical edges of the shower, along the vertical edges where the shower screen meets the tiles and around the inside recess of the shower shelf.
I then packed up my tools and did a last clean and detail.
This job took 9 hours and cost the customer $1100*
